2017 MAYOR’S YOUTH COUNCIL
Leadership Retreat
Thursday, November 2, 2017 • Berry’s Seafood • Florence, MS
A total of 19 youth councils from across the state were represented by over 75 students who came to enhance their leadership and teambuilding skills. This year’s retreat was, again, facilitated by broadcast media professional Othor Cain. Cain is the Director of Media and communications for the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office, where he serves as chief spokesperson for the department. He is also the CEO of OCD Media and Communications, a public relations, media consulting and crisis PR firm.
At this annual event, students are able to develop their leadership skills through teambuilding and networking exercises that are preformed alongside students from Mayors’ Youth Councils from across the state.
This retreat also allowed students to give MML staff greater insight through sharing ideas and interests concerning the Annual Youth Leadership Summit, which is held each spring at alternating college campuses across the state. The suggestions that were provided will be used to develop the agenda for the upcoming 11th Annual Youth Summit, which will be held
on the campus of Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi on March 2 – 3, 2018.
Thanks to the City of Brandon for making this year’s retreat a success!
