City of Shelby Vacancy Announcement - Chief of Police

The City of Shelby is looking for a Full-Time Chief of Police to work days and nights if needed, and is responsible for supervising all police department personnel, and plans, schedules, coordinates, and directs their activity while providing for the protection of lives and property, prevention of crime and enforcement of laws and ordinances within the city boundaries. The Chief of Police will be held accountable for the effective delivery of police services to the community.

Desirable Training and Experience:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Must not have any Felony Convictions.
  • Must be a Citizen of the United States.
  • Must possess a valid Mississippi Driver’s License.
  • Must be POST Certified with Mississippi Department of Public Safety.
  • Must have at least 24 months of full-time law enforcement/patrol officer experience.
  • Must submit to and pass a background check.
  • Prior supervisor experience preferred.
  • Must complete a minimum of 6 month probationary period from the date of hire.


The salary for the position is negotiable, depending on experience and qualifications.
