The new City of Gluckstadt, incorporated in 2021, is seeking a candidate to fill the position of City Clerk.  The City Clerk performs all of the duties of a city clerk, as provided by Mississippi state law and any ordinances, rules, and regulations of the City of Gluckstadt, Mississippi.  The City Clerk performs high level administrative, technical, and professional work in directing and supervising the administration of city government and will plan, direct, manage, and oversee the activities and operations of the City Clerk’s Office, including, but not limited to, preparing the agenda for the Mayor and Board of Aldermen, taking and transcribing official minutes of the regular and special meetings of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen, coordinating municipal elections, publicizing legal notices, maintaining all official documents and records for the City, and certain human resources duties.  The City Clerk will also perform extensive word processing, data entry & record maintenance; help to handle website & document updates; respond to telephone and email requests from the public; assist City employees, as needed; and perform other duties as assigned.  The City Clerk actively participates in implementation of the city budget, manages municipal finances to include bookkeeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and all federal and state reporting associated therewith. City Clerk receives policy direction from the Mayor and Board of Aldermen, but also provides administrative and technical assistance to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen and provides a positive atmosphere as a public servant to the community.  The successful candidate must be able to work effectively with elected officials, officers of the city, department heads, the city attorney, representatives of other agencies, other city employees, and the general public, and must be able to communicate effectively, orally, written, and electronically.  The person in this position supervises full-time and/or part-time employees; ensures compliance with state laws regarding accounting, budget and all known federal laws; and performs other treasurer duties.  The City Clerk works regular business hours year-round, with frequent overtime and night work, attends and participates in professional group meetings, and has accountability for fiscal, safety and legal issues related to the work for which this position is responsible; an ability to attend evening meetings and other Clerk obligations is also required.

This is a full-time permanent position in the Office of the City Clerk; the immediate supervisor for this position is the Mayor.  The City Clerk is expected to develop effective methods & routines for accomplishing job responsibilities.
