Description Summary
A patrol sergeant is a first-line supervisor in a law enforcement agency responsible for overseeing
patrol officers and ensuring the effective enforcement of laws and departmental policies. The role is crucial for maintain discipline, providing guidance, and ensuring operational efficiency on the streets.

Examples of Work
Examples of work performance in this classification include, but are no limited to, the following tasks. These tasks may be amended, or other tasks may be assigned as necessary.
- Involves the direct supervision of both full-time and part-time patrol
- Ensure that patrol officers adhere to department policies, procedures, and legal
- Conduct roll call and briefings at the beginning of shifts, sharing relevant information, updates, and assignments with the patrol team.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to officers, fostering professional growth and
- Serve as a role model by demonstrating ethical behavior, effective communication, and strong decision-making skills.
- Address performance issues, provide constructive feedback, and recommend training or disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Serve as the incident commander at crime scenes or critical incidents until relieved by a higher ranking officer.
- Make quick decisions on how to deploy resources, manage, the scene, and ensure public
- Monitor and manage patrol operations ensuring adequate coverage, and response
- Review and approve reports, citations, and other documentation prepared by patrol officers for accuracy and completeness.
- Oversee the field training program for new officers, including providing evaluations and

- Respond to community concerns, attend neighborhood meetings, and collaborate on problem solving initiatives.

Supervisor Responsibilities
Will supervise all personnel on his or her shift by preparing and maintaining detailed reports, logs, and other documentation regarding shift activities, incidents, and personnel performance.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience
