Up to a maximum of $31,820.00

Pursuant to Article 5, Section 5.04, of the Civil Service Code of Rules and Regulations (attached), the Commission may reject, or cause to be rejected the application of any person for admission to a test, or may, after examination, decline to certify, or may remove from an eligible list, an applicant who is deemed disqualified. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Designs and fabricates various signs used as identification and informational markings throughout the city; enters data into vinyl plotter for cutting; designs and hand cuts custom graphics as needed; uses manuals of uniform traffic and control devices to ensure signs comply with all local, state and federal regulations.  Operates paint striper equipment to apply pavement and parking lot markings; lays out parking lot and street design prior to applying paint; mixes various colors of paint; cleans and aligns paint striper as needed; updates pavement markings in area maps as necessary; refers to manuals to ensure proper markings.  Maintains equipment and vehicles to ensure proper working condition; refers to manuals to perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance of equipment; operates equipment following all local, state and federal safety guidelines and regulations.  Completes and initiates work orders; prepares daily work report to document work assignments; reviews for accuracy and completeness; submits to appropriate individual for processing.  Assists in the maintenance of equipment and supplies; monitors use of supplies; prepares material request forms to order replacement products as needed.  Assists in setting up road barricades and signs to designate work areas; properly blocks off work area to ensure safe working environment for crews.  Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED; One (1) year of previous experience and/or training involving diagrams, blueprints, graphics or related area; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must evidence and maintain a valid Mississippi driver’s license when filing Civil Service application.

EXAMINATION:   The examination will consist of satisfactory proof of completion of Minimum Qualifications as stated above constituting 70% of final score and 30% to be derived from the oral interview, totaling 100%.  The total composite score must be 70 or above to be considered for the position.  Applicants deemed to have met the Minimum Qualifications will be notified of the date, time, and location of the oral interview. Oral interviews will be conducted by appointment only.  Applicants will be notified of their interview time by the Civil Service Administrator once the job closes. Eligibility shall be for a period of up to one (1) year from the date of certification. No test will be rescheduled regardless of circumstances, EXCEPT those conducted at Meridian Community College.  Persons should not apply unless they clearly meet the qualifications set forth in this announcement.
