Maintenance Worker II Job Description

 

Job Title: Maintenance Worker II

Department: Street Department

Employment Status: Full Time

Reports To: Public Works Director

Salary: $14.00 to $17.00 per hour, plus benefits

 

This is an open position to be on a Street Department crew. Positions at this level are distinguished from other job classifications of this type by the level of responsibility assumed and the complexity of duties assigned. Work in this class requires leadership and participation in a variety of maintenance work related to the assigned area. Assignments also may include the occasional operation of trucks and other automotive or construction equipment incidental to regular duties. Although some assignments may be carried out under general supervision of a crew leader who issues general or specific orders depending on the assignment. Work may be checked in progress or upon completion of the work.

THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOWING

DUTIES. ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS MAY BE IDENTIFIED BY THE

CITY AND LISTED AS SUCH IN THE INCUMBENT'S PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL

ELEMENTS. VARIOUS TASKS MAY BE ASSIGNED UNDER EACH ESSENTIAL

FUNCTION. THOSE THAT ARE LISTED UNDER THE EXAMPLES OF WORK ARE NOT

ALL INCLUSIVE; THEY ARE EXAMPLES ONLY AND MAY BE AMENDED OR ADDED TO

AS NEEDED BY THE CITY OF GLUCKSTADT.

 

  1. Repair and Maintenance
  2. Testing Assistance

 

EXAMPLES OF WORK

 

  • Operation of motor vehicles
  • Operation of heavy equipment
  • Operation of equipment relative to grass cutting and tree trimming (Zero turn mowers, weed eaters, edgers, and chainsaws)
  • Securing and partitioning off work areas with traffic safety equipment
  • Flagging and directing traffic
  • Clearing of drainage areas of debris by use of machinery or by hand in some instances
  • Litter pick-up within road rights-of-way
  • Limb pick-up within subdivisions
  • Maintenance of roads (pothole patching, asphalt digouts, etc.)
  • Right of way sign maintenance
  • Cutting grass in the right of way
  • Cleaning of City streets, gutters, and alleyways along assigned routes
  • May, at times, be asked to work overtime or weekends due to projects extending beyond normal working hours and/or emergency conditions
  • Other various duties as requested

EMPLOYEE PERFORMS OTHER JOB-RELATED TASKS AS ASSIGNED AND REQUIRED.

ELEMENTS ARE ESSENTIAL TO THAT EMPLOYEE'S POSITION WITHIN THE JOB

CLASSIFICATION.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Three (3) years’ experience in a responsible staff, managerial or administrative capacity.

 

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS

Knowledge of mathematics through general math.

Ability to follow written and oral instructions.

A working knowledge of the occupational hazards involved in the work and proper safety precautions for the safe performance of the job.

Maintain a personal physical condition appropriate for the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical requirements are not exhaustive and additional job-related physical demands may be added to these by the City if the need arises. Corrective devices may be used to meet these physical requirements.

Ability to be physically able daily, to bend, walk, occasionally lift, and carry up to 100 lbs.

Operate a variety of vehicles, equipment, and tools in a safe and efficient manner.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

Work is generally performed outdoors daily. Exposure to extremes of temperature (hot and cold). Contact with fuel/chemicals on a frequent basis. The noise level is loud.
